About me

Portrait Commissions

I studied History of Art at St. Andrews University before moving to London. Here I worked in trade control for a precious metals traders followed by a role at BP on the gas trading floor. After a career break to care for my children, I dusted down my pencils and started drawing again. I live ‘Between the Commons’, Wandsworth SW11.

If you would like me to sketch a portrait of your child then please email me your favourite photograph. I will ask for a small deposit and will email you a scan of the portrait to check that you are happy.

Portraits

I believe the eyes hold the key to a successful portrait of a child. Capturing the intensity of their gaze or their particular cheeky twinkle helps to draw you in. Drawn or painted portraits are often contemplative and offer a depth that is hard to recreate in a controlled photographic shoot. The simplicity of a pencil drawing helps portray the essence of a child. It strips away the background allowing the character of the child to shine through.

Pets

A pet’s character is revealed in a hand-drawn portrait, whether it’s their playful nature or their calm, gentle presence. Pencil drawings, in particular, bring a sense of purity and focus to the subject, removing background distractions and allowing the animal’s personality to take center stage. This simplicity highlights the unique bond between pet and owner, turning the portrait into a timeless piece that celebrates the spirit of a beloved companion.

Architecture

The simplicity of pencil allows for a focus on the structure’s form, texture, and intricate details, highlighting the character of the building without the distraction of color or background. Every line and shading can evoke a sense of history or mood, whether it’s the grandeur of a historic landmark or the charm of a small cottage. The minimalist nature of pencil drawing invites the viewer to appreciate the building’s beauty in its most essential and purest form.

Your portrait has truly captured the essence of my children. You’ve managed to draw not just their faces but their personalities as well. I’m so grateful for this beautiful artwork.
